Mission

Founded in 1976, American Hiking Society is the only national voice for hikers - promoting and protecting foot trails and the hiking experience. American Hiking represents thousands of individual members and more than 240 member organizations who are dedicated to beautiful places to hike, strong outdoor ethics, and the belief that the preservation of hiking trails and their environments is important and a worthwhile legacy to leave the next generation. American Hiking is also making sure that your hiking experience is a great one - helping keep vistas untarnished by encroaching development, negotiating user conflicts on the trail, and educating new hikers about good trail etiquette.
