Vision

Our vision is to use the power of media, art and technology to bring hope and inspiration to a global learning community. Youth around the world are living in challenging times. Levels of anxiety and alienation are extremely high. Innovative solutions are needed. MY HERO is uniquely positioned to encourage youth to harness their passions, interests and skills. By creating and sharing media on MY HERO — film, art, poetry and music — youth celebrate those making a difference in their communities and in the world. In the process, they see their own potential to create positive change in their community. MY HERO flourishes at the grass roots level involving people, especially students, in a dialogue about values, character, diversity, equity and inclusion. The growing archive of stories, art, and films form a critical mass of inspiring stories that emphasize empathy, altruism, morality, sacrifice, leadership, persistence, resilience and—above all—being part of a community.

Goals

1. 1.MY HERO continues to grow as a comprehensive multimedia, education, and technology-driven initiative promoting diverse role models and positive story telling in classrooms and homes around the globe.
2. 2.Expand Media Arts Education in LAUSD and additional districts by increasing classrooms served, teacher onboarding, and student projects completed. Track outcomes: educators onboarded, students served, projects published, and at least one public-facing showcase per program cycle.
3. 3.MY HERO Youth Reporter Workbook and companion video are complete. We are expanding distribution with educator partners, with Esther Wojcicki as lead advisor and award-winning filmmakers supporting as mentors and advisors.
