Bethany House of Nassau County Corporation

Mission

Bethany House provides a safe place for healing and personal growth for women, and women with children, experiencing homeless. It is built on a foundation of community support to provide a continuum of care, from uncertainty to stability. Through our partnerships, we provide the women in our programs with trauma informed services, in-house and community-based health services, and case management focused on securing educational and employment growth opportunities and a path to permanent housing and self-sufficiency. We strive for our guests and their children to experience a sense of self-worth and belonging in response to their experience with our dedicated staff and volunteers.

1.Through donation and grant funding, we were able to introduce enhanced therapeutic services in our emergency shelters to address the increasing incidence of behavioral challenges we observed as barriers to achieving sustained permanent housing for the women, and women with children, we serve.
2.The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in longer than usual stays in our emergency shelters, where we observed that some women benefit from this extra time to strengthen their ed/voc and financial goals. Through grant funding, we opened a transitional housing program for highly motivated women to allow them to advance these goals.
3.Nassau County has been placing women and children in motels as a result of a shortage of emergency shelter placements. Bethany House used our assets to purchase an additional home in June 2025 to serve 9 single women; it is scheduled to become state-certified and open in late 2025 to address this need.
