Mission

The Public Broadcasting Council of Central New York, Inc. (WCNY) is a nonprofit organization providing public media in the public interest to Central New York. Chartered in 1965 as "the Education Station," WCNY focuses on improving education, economic opportunity, and quality of life for people across the region's urban, suburban, and rural areas. We strive to "open minds and spark change" by delivering award-winning local and national programming, community forums, and hands-on learning to a diverse audience that shares our passion for innovation and creativity. WCNY's five TV channels and three radio stations reach 19 counties and connect with 1.8-million potential viewers and listeners, and our website attracts thousands of monthly users. With education always at the heart of what we do, more than 30,000 students relied on "TV Classroom" for remote learning during the pandemic and thousands gain fiscal literacy from WCNY's Enterprise America experiential learning center.
