Developing Artists Theater Company Inc.
Mission
Founded in 1999, Developing Artists (DA) challenges teens (ages 12-19) to combine rigorous performing arts training with an ensemble-based philosophy to create original work that drives social change. Our goal is to support the long-term development of our students through comprehensive, FREE performing arts education, holistic mental health services, and performance opportunities such as the REBEL VERSES Youth Arts Festival. These programs help youth develop artistic skills, promote college readiness, and use creative expression for advocacy and personal growth. Developing Artists has served over 4,000 young artists in more than 25 years.
Vision
Developing Artists envisions a world where young people, regardless of background, have access to the transformative power of the arts. By providing free, culturally relevant performing arts education, we empower teens to become artists, activists, and leaders who challenge systemic inequities, advocate for social justice, and inspire change. Our vision is to nurture a diverse generation of empathetic, creative thinkers who shape a more equitable future.
Goals
- 1.Our goal is to strengthen DA’s capacity by expanding staff, enhancing teaching artist training, and increasing resources to meet growing demand. Investing in infrastructure ensures sustainable growth, enabling us to serve more underserved youth with free, high-quality arts education. This investment supports long-term organizational stability and deepens our impact in NYC communities.
- 2.DA is piloting an outreach program for middle schoolers, fostering early arts engagement and preparing them for our Institute. This pipeline supports academic success and addresses systemic barriers to arts access. Additionally, we’re expanding alumni opportunities with workforce development as teaching artists, ensuring cultural representation and mentorship in high-need.
- 3.REBEL VERSES National expands DA's renowned youth arts festival beyond NYC, bringing together diverse youth ensembles from across the country. Each year we pick a city with a youth organization excited to host the festival. Through a week of workshops, rehearsals, and collaborative performances, students create original works addressing social issues.
