Mission

Since 1912, the mission of Girl Scouts has been to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. At Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ), we bring that mission to life across 138 diverse communities in Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset, Union, and Warren counties. Since 2008 through the merger of several legacy councils, GSHNJ offers engaging, girl-led experiences in four key focus areas: STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship. Our programs help girls grow into leaders through immersive opportunities like summer camp, travel, community service, and the iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program. With the support of dedicated adult volunteers and staff, we ensure that every girl—regardless of background—can access meaningful, developmentally appropriate experiences that inspire curiosity, resilience, and lifelong leadership.
