Brandywine Valley SPCA
Mission
Every year, nearly 30,000 animals find safety, care, and a second chance through Brandywine Valley SPCA. Founded in 1929, BVSPCA was the first open-admission no-kill shelter in Pennsylvania and Delaware, and has grown into one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country, operating across Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Washington, DC. BVSPCA's work extends well beyond adoption. Its Humane Law Enforcement officers investigate abuse and neglect across Chester, Delaware, Dauphin, Perry, and Cumberland counties in Pennsylvania. Exclusive state contracts with the Delaware Office of Animal Welfare and DC Health extend those services statewide in Delaware and throughout the District of Columbia. For families struggling to afford care, Animal Health Centers in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and DC provide low-cost and safety-net veterinary services — helping pets stay in their homes. - 1.ANIMAL WELFARE: Continually enhance the health and care of animals by providing consistent experiences that reflect BVSPCA's philosophy and high standard of care, explore and adopt new services and support for pet owners including veterinary clinics and pet care classes, and provide community outreach and education about the meaning of humane animal care and how to get involved in BVSPCA’s mission
- 2.PEOPLE: Invest in the organization’s people, continue to review staff structure to define roles, review and update compensation structure as needed, make BVSCPA known as a great place to work that fosters a sense of belonging, pride and connection to a larger mission, continue to support and contribute to workforce development in the animal welfare sector that facilitates greater community reach.
- 3.FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY: Articulate and pursue key priorities for investment and expansion, engage people across all sites and departments about BVSPCA’s budget goals, educate and empower staff and volunteers about the importance of cultivating public support, complete long-term financial projections, enhance outreach and engagement to ensure targeted messages are reaching prospective donors.
