PA PETS, Inc.
Mission
Our mission is simple: To spay and neuter cats and dogs until such time as there are no more homeless or unwanted animals. PA PETS raises funds to provide financial support our 2 Spay/Neuter Programs: (1) Our "PETS" Program supports limited-income pet parents to spay/neuter/vaccinate their pet dogs and cats. (2) Our TNR Program supports residents and community volunteers to spay/neuter/vaccinate outside, homeless cats to reduce the number of unwanted kittens born each year. Both Programs are recognized as the most effective and humane method to reduce overcrowding in our local shelters and the suffering of homeless animals. Since 1987, PA PETS has spayed/neutered/vaccinated over 46,000 animals including over 11,500 homeless cats since 2012.
Vision
Established in 1987, PA PETS, Inc. continues its outreach to local communities to educate the public about spaying, neutering and vaccinating their pet dogs and cats. We provide funding to pay local vet clinics to spay/neuter and vaccinate pet dogs and cats of limited income clients to reduce the number of unwanted litters, and to reduce the overcrowding of our local rescues and shelters. Our TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) Program (established in 2012) pays local vet clinics to spay/neuter and vaccinate outside, homeless cats that local residents and community volunteers trap for basic veterinary care. This program reduces the number of unwanted litters of kittens that are generally not adoptable when growing up outside with little socialization. Our Good Samaritan colony caregivers provide food and shelter to outside, homeless cats while we provide financial and logistical support to each colony caregiver and individual trapper to improve the lives of these homeless animals.
Goals
- 1.Expand our funding to help additional clients as we receive more requests. PA PETS TNR Program supports clients in 10 rural Central Pennsylvania counties, utilizing 6 veterinary clinics to provide spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations, as well as surgical / medical care for injured or ill outside cats. From 2012 - December 2025, we have spayed/neutered and vaccinated 10,972 homeless cats.
- 2.Expand regional vet clinic capacity to provide services to our increasing TNR Population. As our TNR Program expands, we are working to collaborate with more area vet clinics, but the #1 problem in RURAL Central PA is the lack of available veterinarians. Increased waiting times and timely care for urgent or emergency situations for pets has lengthened the waiting time for our TNR appointments.
- 3.Recruit more volunteers to learn and eventually lead our PA PETS Operations for organizational continuity. PA PETS is 100% volunteer supported. We have no paid employees, directors or board members. To ensure our continuity as our volunteers age, we are actively recruiting new volunteers to shadow current ones and eventually take on more operational and program responsibilities.
