House in the Woods Military and Family Retreat
Mission
To create a therapeutic, recreational, and educational retreat for our nation's US armed forces and their families by using outdoor wilderness activities in Maine to create comfortable and relaxing milieu for veterans, active duty military, and their families to come together to share their common challenges which come from the service and sacrifice of protecting our nation's freedom and cherished democratic ideals. Activities will be led by licensed Maine guides and staffed with caring volunteers and assistance from the local VA Center and health professionals from the community upon request. We offer an outdoor retreat program that honors their sacrifice and assists our veterans in the journey towards healing the mental and physical pain of loss.
Vision
House in the Woods envisions a future where every Veteran and military family finds healing, connection, and renewal through the power of the outdoors. By accomplishing our mission, we aspire to create a lasting community of support, where those who have served our nation can experience peace, camaraderie, and purpose beyond their military service. Through our retreats, we aim to reduce isolation, strengthen resilience, and honor the sacrifices of our heroes by providing them with life-changing outdoor experiences. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that no Veteran feels alone in their journey—because together, we heal.
Goals
- 1.Our core focus here at House in the Woods is staying focused on our original mission = Giving Back to our service members by providing FREE outdoor retreat opportunities for them and their families. These opportunities provide the chance to connect with other Veterans who are also looking for that camaraderie and healing which is enhanced by the outdoor activities.
- 2.Our organization and it's leadership are regularly reviewing the opportunities that we provide to ensure that they are safe and helpful for our attendees, additionally we ensure they are financially responsible for our organization and are representative of the support that our donors provide for our mission and for our Veterans.
- 3.In order to help ensure that House in the Woods will be here for generations to come, we must focus on new opportunities to connect with supporters and donors. Networking is key to getting the word out about our organization and what we have to offer. Our 3rd focus is ensuring funds are available to continue doing this healing work today and hopefully many generations in the future.
