More Art Inc.
Mission
More Art is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works with artists across their careers to catalyze social change by producing meaningful public art for a broad audience. Through creative engagement, More Art empowers people to utilize art to connect with others, build awareness, and drive action on topics that affect our lives and communities. What we recognize as the role of public art in progressive change is what we call Creative Engagement, which gets people to feel, not just think about, society and the people we share it with. This can include actionable storytelling and consciousness building through interdisciplinary partnerships and multi-sensory, participatory art experiences in public spaces.
Vision
We envision a world where art takes up an expanded role in society and is a catalyst for social change. More Art’s role as a platform and space for dialogue, awareness raising, and community engagement is more important than ever. We dedicate ourselves to producing artworks that address topics that fall under the umbrellas of economic equity, civil rights, and environmental justice. We do this on a local and human scale, focusing on how these issues affect the lives of New Yorkers. Through our work, we aim to build a more equitable and caring community that is connected to one another. We envision a world where communities commonly interact with public art and view it as a mechanism for learning about the social issues that are most pressing within their communities. This experience will foster connection and motivate collective action to build a future together that is more empathetic and free.
Goals
- 1.Empower more artists to use art for social change by building out our networks, increasing support for artists, and assuring the organization maintains equity & representation.
- 2.Shift culture to embrace public art as a tool for community engagement by capturing and articulating the process, demonstrating impact, and sharing it in accessible ways to people from all backgrounds
- 3.Invest in organizational sustainability by building financial predictability, ensuring staff satisfaction, and implementing systems that prioritize capacity, impact, intention and integrity.
