Vision

The DuSable is the leader in using African-centered learning to further community education. Recently, as part of its pivot towards embracing education as the center of its mission, the Museum pioneered a campaign promoting the philosophy that Every Month is Black History Month, an effort devoted to setting the African American experience within, rather than apart from, the story of the United States and encouraging other marginalized groups to see themselves, too, as an integral part of the American narrative. This pedagogical approach will inform the growth of the Museum’s educational programs.

Goals

1. 1.Enhance our arts in education programs using the LEARN method and Socratic dialogue. Inaugurate the DuSable EdTech Center, an onsite learning center for community virtual experiences.
2. 2.Increase our annual operating budget, enabling us to staff all necessary staff positions.
3. 3.Engage our professionally credentialed staff to undertake a complete inventory of our archives and renovate our on-site archive storage to maximize efficiency and maintain industry standards.
