Season of Concern

Mission

Founded in 1987 in response to the needs of Chicago theater workers afflicted with HIV/AIDS and AIDS-related illnesses, Season of Concern now provides short-term financial assistance to local theater workers regardless of position or union affiliation. Assistance comes primarily from two funds: The Biscotto-Miller Fund (for debilitating injury and illness) and The Malcolm Ewen Emergency Fund (for non-health related emergencies). Our efforts also support local HIV/AIDS organizations, in honor of the reason for our organization's founding, and the central region of the Entertainment Community Fund, who offers our community additional resources.

A future where no member of the Chicagoland theater community suffers alone.

Goals

1.Produce a series of engagement events to introduce and reinforce the work that we do in our community. Topics to include Mental Health, Career Resources: Welcome to Chicago Event & Financial Planning. Partner with organizations doing similar work, such as the League of Chicago Theatres, Sarah Siddons Society, Actors' Equity Association and the Entertainment Community Fund.
2.Begin Succession planning to address the need for new leadership and to continue filling empty board positions caused by rotations: Ensure 4 new board members are willing to be “working board members” and have leadership capabilities.
3.Create and activate an Ambassador Program consisting of working professionals (six to start) who can speak to the work our organization when they are out in the community, thereby increasing visibility of our services and number of theatres willing to collect for us.
