Southwest Collective

Mission

We provide an open forum for southwest side residents to voice their concerns; hear new perspectives from their neighbors; learn about existing public resources; and launch economic, educational, and recreational initiatives that bring our siloed communities together.

Vision

A southwest side where neighbors know each other, feel empowered to build their support network and are ready to "lead from where we live."

Goals

1.Our most popular program, Freebies for Families, has been gradually expanded since 2019. * 5,000+ families were given diapers, clothing & gear * 1,000 pounds of clothing have been saved from the landfill * 15 local organizations have conducted a collective 600 hours of 1:1 in-person outreach on the southwest side of Chicago
2.In response to the pandemic and the recent influx of migration from Venezuela, we scaled up our mutual aid efforts. Now, we have re-focused on expanding food access & entrepreneurship so people can gain a foothold and support their families.
3.As a result of immigration crackdowns, and rollbacks of many worker and environmental protections, we are focusing on fundamentals for our community: food, a decent living and a quality physical environment.
