    Mission

    The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is a private nonprofit organization whose mission is to make a difference for animals and the people who love them. Founded in 1879, WHS is a 501(c)(3) organization and operates animal shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Door, and Brown Counties, as well as a spay/neuter clinic in West Allis. WHS annually serves 40,000 animals. and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella organization. As the largest shelter in the state of Wisconsin, WHS offers the following specialized services: an adoption program that places 10,000+ animals a year; stray animal services in Racine, Brown, Door and Ozaukee Counties; a low-cost spay/neuter clinic; a pet food bank; youth programs; outreach programming; a foster program for animals in domestic violence situations; dog training classes; wildlife rehabilitation; and more.
