Mission

At Minnesota Children’s Museum, our mission is sparking children’s learning through play. Minnesota Children’s Museum was founded in 1981 by three educators dedicated to expanding informal education opportunities for Minnesota’s youngest learners. The museum has evolved into a local leader in playful learning experiences that support early childhood development. The museum resides in downtown Saint Paul and features 11 galleries where families have fun together while children take the lead in their hands-on exploration. Through interactive exhibits and programs, the museum provides open-ended, self-directed experiences that give kids (and adults!) the space and freedom to explore their interests, solve problems and build life skills.

Vision

Our vision is: Kids play more. Adults do, too. All families thrive in a happier, healthier and more innovative community through the radiant power of play. Through immersive experiences and environments that encourage children’s active exploration and adult engagement, the museum emphasizes and highlights play as a critical ingredient in every child’s development. Play might seem simple, but it is truly profound. Having the freedom to play builds the foundation for a child’s lifetime of learning. Having the opportunity for social interaction and cooperative play with others at an early age is critical for building important skills for the future.
