Mission

James Toland Vocal Arts is a San Francisco Bay Area-based nonprofit established to encourage and cultivate, through competition and education, the emerging talents of singers who aspire to a professional career in vocal performance. Achieving success as a vocalist in the world of performing arts is a complex and challenging task. JTVA broadens the search for and exposure of new voices. We provide encouragement, financial support, and performance opportunities for singers early in their careers and the opportunity for further development and promotion of singing talent.

Vision

To be an international contributor to the ongoing development of the vocal arts through a sustainable, fully funded, artist focused charitable organization.

Goals

1.Develop and enhance the annual competition, master classes, and related programs a) Increase attendance at events b) Establish greater media presence and coverage c) Expand outside partnerships d) Attract preeminent names for judging panels and master class teachers e) Increase number and caliber of competition applicants f) Increase prize monies and performance opportunities
2.Expand activities to additional training and educational programs a) Develop a summer workshop/residency program b) Establish a competition tier for younger singers (e.g., high school age)
3.Expand fundraising, identify new revenue sources, and develop organizational succession planning a) Broaden reach to larger donor base b) Identify and pursue grant opportunities c) Continue to build an endowment fund d) Develop annual fundraising events strategy e) Expand board membership f) Develop future leadership plans
