Mission

The mission of American Friends of ELI is to support the work of ELI: Israel Association for Child Protection. The organization protects children from abuse and breaks the intergenerational cycle through comprehensive, trauma-informed services, including prevention programs, crisis intervention, therapy, and public awareness initiatives. Founded by Dr. Hanita Zimrin in 1979, ELI provides a broad spectrum of services to help children heal and families recover from the invisible wounds of trauma, aiming to create a safer and healthier environment for all children in Israel.

Vision

Today, ELI is the only organization in Israel recognized by the Government as dealing exclusively with all aspects of child abuse. Our vision for the future is that every child in Israel grows up safe, seen, and supported. Our comprehensive approach encompasses both direct services and broad community impact.

Goals

1.ELI's national hub for child protection & trauma care bearing Dr. Zimrin’s name including clinical services, professional training, supervision cohorts, practice guidelines, & evaluation under one roof. Serves as a catalyst for research-practice integration. AFELI will underwrite capital & multi-year operating commitments, & will explore U.S. institutional partnerships & naming opportunities.
2.Increase the Number of Treatment Hours - With 20 new therapy rooms and a larger trained workforce, ELI will increase annual treatment hours by 10,000+ beyond 2024 levels of 12.000, prioritizing those most affected by war-related trauma and abuse. AFELI’s role is to fund clinician time, supervision, and case-management so no child waits for care.
3.Intensify Therapist Training - Expand training for clinicians, counselors, & NGOs, providing structured supervision & support. Curricula will prioritize trauma-informed assessment, safety planning, and disclosure protocols. To multiply nationwide capacity, AFELI will fund scholarships for students specializing in child abuse, ensuring a pipeline of experts providing culturally responsive care.
