NOVA of Virginia Aquatics Inc.
Mission
Founded in 1987, NOVA of Virginia Aquatics Inc. (NOVA) strives to be an industry leader in promoting swimming by ensuring access to everyone in our community, regardless of socioeconomic, mental, or physical challenges. Safety, inclusion, and excellence are prioritized to ensure that all individuals can participate and benefit from NOVA’s programs. NOVA began as a year-round swim team serving the Greater Richmond region, and grew to meet the community's need for an affordable and progressive learn-to-swim program with the goal to expand access to swim instruction. Today, NOVA owns three pools in two locations in Richmond, on Gayton Road and at Regency Square, and has grown into one of the largest aquatics programs in the country. We believe learning to swim is not just a skill; it can save lives, build confidence, and inspire dreams.
Vision
NOVA envisions a future where aquatics is a cornerstone of community life in Richmond, where every individual has access to safe, inclusive, and inspiring programs, and where our expanded facilities serve as a premier hub for hosting events that elevate both our athletes and our region. By growing our capacity, we aspire to set the standard for excellence in swimming, create new opportunities for participation and competition, and ensure that the life-changing benefits of swimming reach generations to come.
Goals
- 1.We are expanding the Henrico County Public Schools lessons program to serve 200 additional second graders, providing more children with lifesaving water safety skills and foundational swim instruction. This growth increases equitable access to aquatics education and ensures even more students gain confidence, competence, and safety in and around the water.
- 2.We are investing in professional development by sending a lifeguard to earn certification through the Aquatic Exercise Association. With a qualified Swim Fitness Certificate water aerobics instructor we have started NOVA's first shallow water adult class. We are up to 10 participants in the first month it was offered.
- 3.We are offering structured swim lessons for PALS participants in place of open fun swim which creates a more inclusive, skill-building experience. Lessons provide individualized instruction, improve water safety, build confidence, and support measurable progress. This approach ensures every swimmer gains purposeful time in the water while continuing to have fun in a supportive environment.
