Scottish Rite Foundation of South Carolina Inc.
Mission
The SRFSC offers the essential services of diagnosing and remedying preschool children aged 18 months to 6 years with speech and language difficulties. The Trustees and the Board of Directors work tirelessly to raise the funds necessary to operate the RiteCare Language Centers in South Carolina. SRFSC leaders are incredibly thankful for our support and know that many families are still in need. Due to the high demand for speech therapy services and the financial strains that families experience, the RiteCare Centers in Columbia and Greenville always has a waitlist. Currently, the sole speech pathologist, at each center, treats a maximum of eight students weekly. At a given time, 18 to 32 children are awaiting evaluation and remediation services at our RiteCare Centers. Specific Services: Certified speech-language pathologists provide all therapeutic services. Diagnostic Evaluations are the primary methodology for determining the type of speech-language disorder and the appropriate course of remediation. These services are offered at no cost to the family and compared to local market costs, ranging from $200 to $300 per evaluation. The average student participates in one to two therapy sessions each week. Speech pathologists routinely monitor student milestones and note progress and challenges during treatment. Pathologists and parents often begin observing progress after a few sessions and report significant improvements after several months of therapy. Students participate in therapy sessions for an average of one year and are invited to celebrate through a spring or summer graduation ceremony. Training and educating parents are integral to our program. Each family must have a parent or guardian attend each session and practice exercises with their students at home between therapy sessions. Our homework exercises increase therapy success by engaging the family in remediation and supporting student behavioral management strategies. The SRFSC is committed to fulfilling our vision of “Truly Making a Difference Every Day, One Child, One Family at a Time.” With our help, these students have advanced through elementary school and are achieving their academic and social goals.
