Mission

Rural Strategies' mission is 1) to improve rural policy through strategic coalition building and public information initiatives, and 2) to lift up ways to make life better in rural communities in the U.S. and beyond the borders.

Goals

1.This is no time to shrink from engaging rural communities and reinforcing the cultural, economic, and social connections they have to urban areas. The Center for Rural Strategies plans to show up, build coalitions, share stories and information that foster understanding and dialog, and carve out a presence that cuts against “culture war” chatter and chronic cynicism.
2.Rural Strategies will work with faith communities and ecclesial hubs and networks to provide narrative and media resources, coaching, and tools that will support the naming and claiming of what is true and essential about rural congregations: They are anchor institutions within their communities.
3.The purpose of the Living Traditions project is to document and disseminate stories about folklife in Appalachia in order to lift up lessons learned, communities made stronger, and paths forward for the next generation.
