Geophysical Society of Houston

Mission

THE GEOPHYSICAL SOCIETY OF HOUSTON WAS FORMED IN 1947 TO PROMOTE THE SCIENCE AND PROFESSION OF GEOPHYSICS, AND TO FOSTER FELLOWSHIP AND COOPERATION AMONG ALL PERSONS INTERESTED IN GEOPHYSICS. THE GSH FORMS THE HEART OF A HOUSTON-BASED GEOPHYSICAL COMMUNITY AND GIVES OPPORTUNITIES TO INTERACT WITH COLLEAGUES THROUGHOUT THE PROFESSION. THE GSH ENCOURAGES AND SUPPORTS SCIENTIFIC, EDUCATIONAL, AND CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES OF BENEFIT TO GEOPHYSICISTS.

Vision

Our goal is inspire in others in the diverse science of Geophysics to pursue a career in the science through our technical program for our members, public outreach, sharing publications from the Sheriff Technical Library or exhibits in the Museum. Geophysics is a diverse science that is prominent in the natural resource industries, planetary, and archeology.

Goals

1.We are committed to the mission promoting geophysics through our rich technical programs. Our website gshtx.org shows that we offer over the year 80 technical meeting, Symposiums, and Annual meeting.
2.The GSH is also committed to our community by recycling e-waste to recycle precious metals and minimize the volume of old/broken technology in area landfills.
3.Committed to reaching out to young people and inspiring them towards STEM subjects through various outreach programs throughout the city. Last year we participated in 16 events for students.
