Founded in 2016 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the Bechdel Project is dedicated to amplifying the voices and stories of women, non-binary, and underrepresented genders through art, activism, and education. Bechdel Project believes that we can change our culture by changing the stories we tell and that the lack of women centered stories in our culture is harmful to women and men alike. Our mission is to address harmful gender disparities in storytelling and promote gender equality, envisioning a world where diverse narratives are represented and celebrated.

Bechdel Project cannot be rated because Charity Navigator has not received the public data required to create a star rating.
To receive a star rating, a charity must be a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charity. Private foundations, consolidated subsidiaries, and organizations with revoked or inactive IRS status are not eligible for a rating.
Eligible charities must also meet the following criteria:
A nonprofit may be listed but not rated if it does not yet meet Form 990 filing requirements, is newly registered, files only Form 990-EZ or 990-N, or is otherwise ineligible for a star rating.
