Access Ability Wisconsin
Mission
Nature is for everybody & every BODY! Discover the great outdoors with AAW. Our mission is to provide opportunities for individuals* with mobility challenges (whether acquired at birth or later in life) to access outdoor recreational experiences promoting access, inclusion, equity, and healthy living (mentally and physically). Our clients report significant increases in independence, dignity, and freedom along with the ability to experience the great outdoors with family and friends or on their own. AAW outdoor wheelchairs and trailers are provided at no cost* to help individuals explore nature and create their own outdoor adventures. - We strive to increase public access to nature and recreational opportunities while promoting environmental stewardship from education to leadership. - We collaborate on community-driven programs and services that empower individuals of diverse backgrounds and all ages. Our programs include youth, veterans, older adults, peer-mentoring through action (for those with spinal cord injuries and other permanent disabilities), and community engagement at all levels. - We encourage organizations and individuals to reach out to learn more about AAW's expertise and resources. Welcome to our exciting mission! We’re thrilled to create opportunities for individuals with mobility challenges to explore and enjoy the great outdoors with their loved-ones and solo! Our passion lies in ensuring that everyone can experience the incredible healing benefits of nature while keeping habitat and our environment with minimal disruption. We wholeheartedly believe in equitable access, including everyone from leaders to participants, and the power of community connections. Let’s empower those with mobility challenges to lead vibrant, active lives together and celebrate a healthier world! Let's include everyone from the veterans that serve our country to all individuals who live with a disability and their families, support, and social connections. Let's transform thinking of organizations and the community about who can be leaders and how people should participate. We want no one on the sidelines! EDUCATION Helping The Community Our Commitment: We strive to increase public access to nature and recreational opportunities while promoting environmental stewardship from education to leadership. Our Resources: AAW's fleet of equipment (outdoor wheelchairs with enclosed outfitted trailers and other adaptive equipment) are provided at no cost* to help individuals explore nature and create their own outdoor adventures. Our Programs: In addition to our programs, we collaborate on community-driven programs and services that empower individuals of diverse backgrounds and all ages. We encourage organizations and individuals to reach out to learn more about AAW's expertise and resources.
Vision
Everyone has the right to access nature and the great outdoors! Experience. Immerse. Be.
Goals
- 1.We also hope to continue improving our sustainability by investing in land and other physical infrastructure, including the development of a training center to reduce logistical challenges for access to equipment, educational, and leadership opportunities.
- 2.In 2025 and beyond, we hope to continue expanding our community networks and partnerships to not only raise awareness of the challenges faced by communities we serve, but build sustainable systems for educational and leadership development.
- 3.Our health and wellness program has traveled the circumference of the earth twice! We have been using personal vehicles. In order, to maintain and grow our programming we need to purchase at least two trucks that can tow and one is required to be an accessible vehicle as our volunteers require this.
