Mission

ArtWaves is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit community arts center located on Mount Desert Island, Maine and serving the larger Hancock County area. The nonprofit is dedicated to making creativity accessible to all by offering affordable, and dynamic art and movement experiences. By attending ArtWaves programs residents, both adults and children, do not need to purchase the tools and materials needed to explore different art mediums. Those investments can create a barrier to experimentation, hinder artistic expressions and restrict the appreciation of all kinds of art forms. ArtWaves is home to three visual arts studios where people of all skill levels can explore different art mediums or hone their skills, in sculpture, figure drawing, painting, mosaics, printing, fiber arts and more. Classes and workshops allow participants to learn techniques from artist instructors from the area and beyond and our art dance studio offers a variety of movement classes for expression, fitness, and fun.
