Mission
Camp Shield is a divisional dba of After Military Service (AMS), a 501(c)3 organization that was founded in 2017. AMS strives to support the personal and professional success of Veterans and their families by increasing resiliency, life satisfaction and empowering our nation's military families. Camp Shield's mission is to empower Women Veterans - emotionally, socially, and physically, to ensure she thrives after military service.
Vision
Our vision is to reduce the risk of Woman Veteran homelessness and suicide by providing a secure and comfortable recovery environment for the Veteran and their children to heal and recover. This will include a transitional housing program in the future. To achieve this vision, Camp Shield provides a series of SHE Thrives workshops, mastermind book clubs, peer-to-peer support groups, retreats, financial assistance, and resource referral services. We also collaborate with many other Veteran Service Organizations to partner with and refer our veterans to as needed.
Goals
- 1.PROGRAM EXPANSION: Pre-Pilot Behavioral Activation program, Expand Children’s Programming, Advance Wonder Woman Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursdays & workshops, Plan retreat expansion for 2026. OUTREACH: Strengthen partnerships & referral networks in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, Host engagement events & pilot in-person community events in Dallas and San Antonio, and Expand Asset Map Nationwide.
- 2.BEHAVIOR ACTIVATION PROGRAM: Finalize curriculum and facilitator training, Re-engage trainers from Harvard, Launch pilot group by December 2025 or Spring 2026, Phasing from program integration → group setting → individual, Collect feedback and define outcome metrics.
- 3.CAPACITY BUILDING: Onboard AmeriCorps VISTA Leader + 2 VISTA members, Expand Baylor University Social Work intern placement site FUNDRAISING & SYSTEMS: Establish fundraising committee & focus on strategic fundraising, Strengthen financial & grant management systems BOARD & GOVERNANCE: Expand board, focus on strategic recruitment & development, Develop NEW policies & procedures
