Mission

Independence Landing is a nonprofit corporation, the mission of which is provide an affordable and safe residential community for adults with varying intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, allowing residents to successfully lead independent and fulfilled lives. Independence Landing (IL) is a first-of-its-kind residential community in Tallahassee, Florida. We opened our doors in October 2023 with a bold vision: to create more than just affordable housing for adults with IDD—but a vibrant, inclusive community. Within less than one year, we reached 100% occupancy, a milestone that reflects both the urgent demand and strong trust in our model. Our integrated approach to independent living includes on-site support, life skills training, meaningful social and educational activities, and community engagement opportunities tailored to adults with IDD. As a result of our unique approach, residents establish a stronger sense of self and community, while honing the skills they need to succeed. For many families, Independence Landing represents a dream come true empowering their loved ones with IDD to live independently for the first time.
