The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
The COVID-19 pandemic continued throughout 2021, presenting challenges for everyone involved in fighting osteosarcoma, including patients, parents, researchers, doctors, and nurses. Against this backdrop, we are particularly pleased to report substantial accomplishment over the past year, and excitement about 2022 and beyond. We are gratified to have been joined in our 2021 efforts by a number of significant funding partners, including Lizzy’s Walk of Faith Foundation, Mary Anne and Paul Fego, Christine and David Martin, Western Extrusions, Angel Heart of Hope Ministry, and the Mark Cuban Foundation. Our supporters are who make our work possible.
In 2021, the Osteosarcoma Institute supported eight innovative research studies and clinical trials through our grant-making process. The majority of our grants are expertly-vetted through our annual, two-stage process. The OSI is also now able to consider grants for projects that are “out-of-cycle” using the same criteria and standards for qualified requests.
In 2021, the Osteosarcoma Institute Hotline received inquiries from individuals around the world, including Brazil, Cuba, Denmark, India, Philippines, UK, and all over the USA! We launched the Spanish Osteosarcoma Institute Information Hotline after a successful English pilot launch. In total, last year the OSI Hotline offered meaningful support for 26 patients and their families. We look forward to helping even more people in 2022.
Our new website (www.osinst.org) launched in 2021 and is now available in 15 languages, in the spirit of our commitment to diversity and inclusion and removing barriers to expert care and information for all. It is a priority of the Osteosarcoma Institute's for our website to be a dynamic content hub with relevant and engaging news and information related to osteosarcoma research, funding, treatment and education.
