Mission

Special Education Legal Fund levels the playing field for families in need with children in the special education system. S.E.L.F. provides resources, knowledge, and support to parents, guardians, and self-advocates in order to facilitate successful navigation of the special education process. S.E.L.F. facilitates communication between stakeholders through an emphasis on knowledge, understanding, collaborative decision making and proactive advocacy. Special Education Legal Fund supports families who have fallen through the cracks in the special education system, and endeavors to help resourced-challenged families struggling with the advocacy process to achieve positive educational outcomes for their children.

Vision

Special Education Legal Fund strives for a world where every child receives a free and appropriate public education and where every parent understands and can independently advocate for their children.

Goals

1.S.E.L.F. supports students' free and appropriate public education rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act by providing access to special education attorneys in CT & NY.
2.S.E.L.F. supports students' special education advocacy efforts by providing access to qualified, non attorney special education advocates.
3.Special Education Legal Fund expands knowledge and awareness about special education issues throughout the community of parents, caregivers, self-advocates, providers, and professionals.
