Newhouse Wildlife Rescue Corporation
Mission
Newhouse Wildlife Rescue, a 501(c3) non-profit organization was founded in 2018 by Martha Jane Newhouse in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Since then, Newhouse has continued its mission to provide rehabilitation services to injured and orphaned wildlife. We provide rehabilitation services to injured and orphaned wildlife. These animals are given more than just a place to rest and recover. They have regular visits from a veterinarian, custom built cages and outdoor enclosures to suit their individual needs, high quality meals and special training to give them the skills they will need in their transition back into the wild. We take pride in being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves and are dedicated to educating the public about the wildlife around them. The animals we release are treated for any parasites and vaccinated, not only for their well-being but for the well-being of any humans they may encounter along their travels. Our goal is always to rescue and release so they can live out their full lives as part of our wild community. Bigger, stronger, and free!
Vision
Our vision is to expand our world's wildlife conservation efforts through education, research, direct rescue missions and rehabilitiation. We aspire to motivate communities to engage in wildlife conservation efforts through thought-provoking and emotionally resonant content via our social media, educational talks, and advocacy.
Goals
- 1.New Clinic - The demand to save injured and orphaned wildlife in our community grows every year. Human encroachment on habitats increases the need for services. Our current facility (the rehabber's garage and yard) limits our ability to serve more animals. We have started a GoFundMe to raise funds to build a new wildlife clinic - more space, more staff, onsite vet, etc. to achieve this goal.
- 2.Education - Teaching children and the public about wildlife is key. We offer free programs to schools and libraries. Messages incldude: What to do when encountering wildlife in need, Importance of wildlife in our ecosystem, Dangers of using rodenticides (toxic food web). Stanley, our Educational Ambassador Groundhog, often accompanies us to help spread the word about co-existing with wildlife.
- 3.Advocacy - Our work brings us up close to several issues / causes negatively impacting our wildlife. Rodenticides killing up the food chain, illegal leg-hold traps and trapping, illegal relocation of animals and more. When possible, we advocate at local and state levels to help educate and support enacting laws to prevent activity.
