    Mission

    The Wild Animal Sanctuary is a 40,000-acre network of rescue facilities across Colorado, providing a lifelong home to more than 1,000 rescued lions, tigers, bears, wolves, mustangs, and other wildlife. Founded more than 46 years ago, it is the oldest and largest carnivore sanctuary in the world. Its main facility, located near Denver, spans 1,450 acres and is open to visitors daily. The site features an elevated walkway stretching more than 1.5 miles, offering a unique vantage point over expansive natural habitats. The Sanctuary also operates a facility in Springfield, Colorado, where habitats are as large as 300 acres, as well as a facility in Craig, Colorado dedicated to restoring the freedom of Colorado’s wild mustangs. Dedicated to lifelong care, the Sanctuary does not breed, sell, or commercially exploit any animals. It also serves as a leading educational resource, welcoming more than 2,000,000 visitors each year and raising awareness about the Captive Wildlife Crisis through both on-site and outreach programs.
