Charming Pet Rescue Humane Society Inc.
Mission
We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned dogs and cats—especially those at risk in overcrowded shelters—focusing on family-friendly pets who are ready to become beloved companions. At Charming Pet Rescue, we’re where pets find their happily ever after. San Antonio and the surrounding areas are facing a severe pet overpopulation crisis, with more than 26,000 stray dogs on the streets and over 25,000 dogs entering shelters each year. Thousands of these animals are not spayed or neutered, leading to an ongoing cycle of unwanted litters and overcrowded shelters. Cats face an equally urgent crisis, with large numbers entering shelters and living as unowned community cats without access to care. Because of this overwhelming volume, far too many dogs and cats are euthanized or left to survive on the streets. At Charming Pet Rescue, we are working to be part of the solution. We rescue at-risk dogs and cats, provide the medical care they need—including spay and neuter—and place them into loving, permanent homes. We also prioritize educating the community on responsible pet ownership, proper care, and the importance of spay and neuter to help reduce this crisis at its source.
Vision
To be a safe haven for the most vulnerable and family-ready pets—those who are overlooked, abandoned, or at risk. We aim to rescue, heal, and rehome more than 1,200 animals each year while inspiring our community to help reduce pet overpopulation.
Goals
- 1.Expand Lifesaving Capacity Increase the number of dogs and cats rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed annually by expanding facility space, strengthening the foster network, and improving operational efficiency. This includes achieving our goal of saving over 2,000 animals per year.
- 2.Reduce Pet Overpopulation Through Prevention Address the root cause of the crisis by promoting and supporting spay/neuter, responsible pet ownership, and accessible veterinary care. Through education and partnerships, we aim to reduce the number of unwanted litters and shelter intakes in our community.
- 3.Improve Outcomes and Quality of Care Ensure every animal receives high-quality medical treatment, behavioral support, and individualized care to increase adoptability and reduce length of stay. This includes investing in training programs, medical resources, and adoption processes that lead to successful, lasting placements.
