Support After Abortion Inc.
Mission
Support After Abortion is dedicated to healing people who have been impacted by abortion. We do this in two ways: (1) We connect people who are struggling emotionally after abortion to the type of healing they prefer. (2) We equip healing providers by active leadership in creating, aggregating, and elevating abortion healing resources.
Vision
1 in 4 women will experience abortion by age 45, according to the Guttmacher Institute. And the National Survey of Family Growth states 1 in 5 men will experience abortion through a partner's termination by the same age. Support After Abortion's nationally representative research studies show that 34% of women and 71% of men report adverse changes after abortion. Such changes include depression, anxiety, and grief. Most people want support—6 out of 10 women and 8 out of 10 men say they looked for help or could have benefitted from talking to someone after their abortion experiences. Yet fewer than 2 out of 10 knew where to go for help. This includes people from all walks of life, belief systems, and ideologies. Support After Abortion meets everyone where they are. Support After Abortion is dedicated to growing awareness, inspiring compassion, and expanding capacity for emotional healing after abortion—and promoting collaboration with abortion healing leaders.
Goals
- 1.Support After Abortion strategies are based on our core values: inspire compassion, promote collaboration, and build capacity for abortion healing. We expand access to abortion healing through our After Abortion Line helpline, education and awareness, creating healing resources and curricula, offering webinars and trainings, and research.
- 2.Through our research and interactions with individuals struggling emotionally after abortion and healing providers, we observe preferences and needs for care and resources—and work to meet them. For example, we have developed options for self-guided, secular, religious, nature-based, virtual, women, men, Spanish, and German resources, and a directory to allow people to search for care anonymously.
- 3.Our core programs —Keys to Hope and Healing: a compassionate, secular introductory abortion healing for women and men —Finding Solid Ground: offering straight talk and powerful stories with a focus on God's love and mercy for men —Unraveled Roots: for digging a little deeper at what might be underneath the pain—like abandonment, addiction, abuse, or codependency—and find new ways forward.
