Mission

Española Humane’s mission is to improve the lives of animals in underserved communities. For over three decades, we have offered free services and innovative programs to help pets in Española, Rio Arriba County, and the adjacent Pueblos, while managing an open-door shelter that welcomes every animal without charge. We believe that the most humane approach is to never turn away an animal in need. Española Humane has remained dedicated to providing free spay/neuter services – almost 7,000 free surgeries every year - administering vital vaccines, assisting families to keep their pets at home during difficult times, and showering each furry friend with boundless love.

Goals

1.Goal: Transformative Care for Unwanted Pets Expand access to our existing free programs—spay/neuter, vaccines, microchips, and more—to provide compassionate care for unwanted pets in our community.
2.Goal: Proactive Pet Overpopulation Control - continue with free services and support families with means to keep their pets at home. Focus on core programs to achieve relationships in the community.
3.Goal: Launch a Free Spay/Neuter Clinic in 2025. Invest in our organization's capacity, encompassing financial, management, and infrastructural aspects, to expand support for our community's pets.
