Mission
MAKOLEKOLE IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO IMPROVING ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN THE LUANGWA VALLEY REGION OF ZAMBIA. BY PROVIDING THIS FOUNDATIONAL RESOURCE, WE EMPOWER PEOPLE TO STRENGTHEN THEIR COMMUNITIES AND REALIZE THEIR POTENTIAL. WE WORK WITH COMMUNITIES IN THE LUANGWA VALLEY TO BRING CLEAN, SAFE WATER CLOSER TO HOME. BY DRILLING SIMPLE, DURABLE BOREHOLES AND PUMP SYSTEMS AND ENSURING RESIDENTS ARE EQUIPPED TO USE AND MAINTAIN THEM, WE ESTABLISH A WATER SOURCE THAT WILL BE RELIABLE FOR YEARS TO COME. OUR WORK IS DONE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOCAL LEADERS WHO BRING CRUCIAL KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR COMMUNITIES NEEDS TO THE CONVERSATION. OUR LOCAL DRILLING TEAM IN MAMBWE, ZAMBIA DRILLS SIMPLE, DURABLE BOREHOLES AND PUMP SYSTEMS AND ENSURING RESIDENTS ARE EQUIPPED TO USE AND MAINTAIN THEM, WE ESTABLISH A WATER SOURCE THAT WILL BE RELIABLE FOR YEARS TO COME. Vision
A world where all people have access to clean, safe water
Goals
- 1.Through our work constructing boreholes and pump systems delivering water to underserved, rural villages in the Eastern Province of Zambia we have reached approximately 105,000 people. Our goal is to accelerate this process in 2025, 2026, and 2027 to meet our goal of delivering water to 500 villages.
- 2.To ensure the sustainability of the water systems we install in communities in the Eastern Province of Zambia, we have invested in training more people (men and women for gender equality) to serve as area "pump minders." Each pump minder receives training on pump maintenance and repair and access to specialized tool kits.
- 3.To ensure fully the benefits of clean, safe, water in a community, we work with each village's water council to provide WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene training. This includes the distribution of written materials village leaders can refer to when instructing villagers on behaviors such as hand washing with soap.
