Vision

Free-roaming feral and stray cats present community issues that warrant community-based solutions. Cats in Action envisions solutions where people in every demographic have access to the resources they need to help cats in their neighborhoods. In our vision, free-roaming cats live in harmony with people and are sterilized, vaccinated, healthy and declining in numbers through proactive, ongoing TNR. We envision a world where one day kittens are no longer born on the streets.

Goals

1. 1.Cats in Action aims to TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) 672 cats in 2025, an increase of 15% over 2024. TNR has one of the highest impacts on reducing the overpopulation of community cats. It is what we do best, and is a service that few other animal welfare organizations provide.
2. 2.Cats in Action aims to focus 40% of our TNR activities in south side Chicago zip code 60620, representing an increase over 30% of TNR activities in 2024. TNR is most effective in a small, targeted area with > 75% of community cats spayed/neutered.
3. 3.Spending time putting cats and kittens through vetting/foster programs diverts valuable resources and time from TNR. In order to stay focused on TNR, we aim to increase transfers out of any young kittens or friendly adult cats to other licensed animal welfare organizations by 10% to 192 cats.
