Vision

Our vision is a world where every journalist can report safely and confidently, supported by equitable access to evidence-based training and resources across four pillars: Physical Safety, Digital Security, Trauma-Focused First Aid, and Mental Wellness. We aim to set the duty-of-care standard for newsrooms and elevate a culture of preparedness, resilience, and ethical practice.

Goals

1. 1.We’ll scale HEFAT by adding regional training hubs, a train-the-trainer pathway, and campus/newsroom partnerships. Scholarships expand access for freelancers and students. Blended learning (online prework + intensive field drills) reduces cost. A mobile kit lets us deploy quickly, while data from after-action reviews refines and standardizes delivery.
2. 2.We will invest in capacity by expanding and strengthening our professional relationships. We’ll strengthen operations with more robust CRM, finance, and grant systems; expand equipment kits and logistics; upgrade data/security infrastructure; and redevelop our evaluation tools to track outcomes and improve quality.
3. 3.Using feedback loops with freelancers, students, and small newsrooms, we’ll turn field observations into pilots: micro-modules on emerging risks, localized scenarios, loaner-gear libraries, peer-support circles, and digital-safety hotlines. We’ll test, measure outcomes, and scale what works with partners through train-the-trainer models.
