Mission

To connect our visitors with local and global art in order to promote their knowledge of and curiosity about the past, deepen their engagement with the art and ideas of today, and stimulate their creative agency in their own futures.

Vision

To redefine the Fine Arts Museums as a forum that stimulates community and visitor conversations and explorations by applying inclusive and equitable perspectives to our collections and the histories they embody, and to support our staff to realize their potential in an inclusive and equitable workplace.

Goals

1.The Legion of Honor will build upon its reputation for substantive scholarship and engaging programming focused on its European and Ancient art collections.
2.The de Young will build upon its scholarship and programming focused on its collections from the United States, Africa, and Oceania, Meso-America, and art by Native artists of western North America.
3.Both museums will place their core focus areas in a global context, connecting them with current cultural conversations and new ideas through engaging exhibitions, interpretation and programming.
