Mission
THE PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE OF THE PAYETTE LAND TRUST IS TO ACQUIRE, MAINTAIN, AND MANAGE LANDS IN CENTRAL IDAHO FOR THE CREATION AND PERPETUATION OF OPEN SPACE, BY MEANS OF ACQUISITION OF FEE SIMPLE OWNERSHIP OF LAND AND CONSERVATION EASEMENTS.
Vision
What We Believe The PLT believes in conserving the rural landscape of West Central Idaho for the benefit of our community and future generations. We promote a community ethic that values and conserves its working agricultural properties and timberlands in balance with thoughtful developments. We envision dedicated areas of open access and connectivity encouraging people to take part in their environment. We believe in maintaining the region’s pristine rivers, streams, meadows, and lakes for present and future generations.
Goals
- 1.Develop and implement 1) volunteer program to include defined projects for the next 3 years, 2) a plan for funding organizational capacity to include grants and endowment support, 3)board member recruitment, onboarding and development plan, 4) adequate endowment for stewardship and defense of PLT’s conservation easements and properties. 5) maintain a sustainable financial and accounting platform
- 2.Present informational seminars, newsletters and social media information to create public awareness of what a land trust does 1) Continue the Conserving the Heart of Idaho program, partnering with arts and humanities groups to increase land conservation awareness and efforts. 2)Continue to provide community events to bring together the conservation community. Engage new audiences, including youth
- 3.Advance conservation in the region: Partner with ranchers, farmers, landowners, developers, and public agencies to identify protecting sensitive open space. 1) increase access close to the community for recreation 2) create a conservation plan to identify, evaluate and prioritize larger landscapes throughout PLT’s service area, especially corridors that link important landscapes and river systems.
