Media Freedom Foundation

Mission

Project Censored’s mission is to promote critical media literacy, independent journalism, and democracy. As Project Censored's publishing imprint, The Censored Press advances the Project’s mission to educate students and the public on media literacy and critical thinking, and champion ethical, independent, investigative journalism.

Vision

Project Censored envisions students and citizens everywhere who understand and appreciate the importance of critical thought, media literacy, and a truly free press for the advancement of democratic societies.

Goals

1.Project Censor's initiative to foster independent journalism and critical media literacy is more urgent than ever. The aim is to advance three primary areas: (1) general readers seeking diverse, fact-based public affairs content; (2) academic readers interested in public service journalism and critical media studies; and (3) students and aspiring journalists.
2.Project Censored's "Media Literacy Across the Curriculum" offers interdisciplinary, modular curriculum that connects media literacy to fundamental democratic principles. Collaboratively designed with journalism, political science, and philosophy educators, the aim is to enhance the curriculum with case studies, analytical frameworks, and assignments rooted in underreported news.
3.To expand Project Censored's reach beyond academia, the plan is to launch a public-facing campaign, including a podcast series focused on how a free press supports democratic self-governance and human flourishing. To do this means upgrading technical equipment and training a program manager to oversee expansion and community engagement.
