Benchmark for Scoring
Impact scores of financial counseling programs are based on the estimated income boost per dollar spent. We compare this cost-effectiveness measure to a benchmark for the program type. The benchmark for financial counseling nonprofits is the cost to operate the program. We award nonprofits 80 points if they can increase income by between 85% and 150% of the cost of the program and 100 points if they can do so by greater than 150% of their program cost. We estimate that beneficiaries receive an $82 (2019 USD) income boost per 1-point increase in credit score. Program increases income by 150% or more of this program cost.

Strategic Goals
20 out of 20 points
The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking and goal setting through sharing their most important strategic goals.
Goal One: After meeting with 118 churches over a period of 4 years in quarterly round table discussions, we saw the need to identify and train a stewardship ministry champion in every church. In 2024, we created a virtual online course to equip people to serve in this capacity, with regular virtual meetings for new champions to problem solve, share best practices and encourage one another.
Goal Two: People are sometimes abandoned by their spouse or divorced. When they meet with church staff for assistance, leadership has not been trained to equip these people for success. We created a church staff process and wrote 24 encouraging devotionals for women and 20 for men, to help them move forward after a painful separation.
Goal Three: To help families cope with the challenges of caring for an adult who is no longer able to manage their own financial affairs, we created a workbook called the 50+ Financial Baton Handoff workbook. This book, published on Amazon, addresses seven financial areas of life to keep bills and accounts current. A 30-minute video is also available on YouTube.
