Data Time Period
1/1/21 to 12/31/21
Benchmark for Scoring
Impact scores of water purification programs are based on a W.H.O. estimate of the value of clean drinking water access in developing regions. Programs receive an Impact score of 100 if they provide a person-year of clean water at a cost of less than 75% of the estimated value of water access, and a score of 80 if they do so for less than 125% of the value. If a nonprofit reports impact but doesn't meet the benchmark for cost-effectiveness, it earns a score of 65. This program's cost to provide clean water is less than 75% of the estimated value of clean water access.
Methodology
This impact score was determined through the Water Purification methodology which is fully detailed in the Charity Navigator Guide to Ratings. Analysis conducted in 2023 by Charity Navigator using data submitted by the nonprofit, theory and evidence from scientific research studies, and public datasets.
Data Source
The nonprofit submitted data on how many purifiers it distributes and how many people a purifier serves, which we use to calculate how many person-years of clean water a nonprofit provides.

The biggest thing we were able to accomplish was our response to the back to back hurricanes in 2020. Because of our relationship with the local fire department in La Paz, the National Honduran Fire Department asked HCP to help them organize a convoy of people for a rescue mission to a stranded village affected by the second hurricane. Within minutes HCP president mobilized the La Paz Fire Department, partnered with medical professionals, and mobilized 26 additional rescue personnel to the area with rescue boats. People were literally hanging on the roofs of their homes. We were able to rescue a town of over 800 people, including a day-old baby that had been born during the hurricane. We were able to mobilize and coordinate multiple partners: the fire department, local business owners, hospital staff, police and military in Honduras. These partners were able to provide food to the families, health care services, and emergency rescue equipment
