The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
In March of 2020 we unexpectedly opened our doors as a full-time distance-learning center, providing our students with computers and high-speed internet access, access to tutors and academic support,
reliable transportation to The SAC, and distributed food and meals to our students and families in the community. On top of the stressors in relation to school, sports, and homelife prior to the pandemic; our
students faced food insecurity with schools being closed, lack of social interaction, increased anxiety, and depression, Covid exposure, loss of family and friends, stress of online learning, lack of computer
and internet access at home, limited means of transportation, significantly increased violence, and poor educational outcomes. The more time we spent with the students in an academic setting, the more disparities we were able to recognize. We have spent thousands of hours exploring exemplary school processes that Student ACES can model programs after to provide additional support systems to ensure the students we serve have a fighting chance for an equitable education. We are filling the gaps in
ACT/SAT prep, life experiences, community service hours, health and wellness education, mental health tools and education, career prep, college readiness and academic advising. In our extensive experience working with our students, we have been able to identify areas of need and create and implement strategies to bridge academic gaps, strengthen weak areas, and ultimately provide outcomes that show improvement and advancement.
