The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
In 2020, the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky provided over $1,000,000 in urgent COVID relief funding for Appalachian people, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations. This included 345 small businesses and farms supported, $180,000 supporting six eastern Kentucky counties as part of the Southeast Kentucky Healthy Downtowns Initiative. 153 grants awarded to businesses, including 0% emergency interest loans, resulting in over 910 jobs saved. $114,718 in response and relief grants made directly to our affiliate communities.
Then in March 2021, our region was hit with devastating flooding and the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky awarded $1,312,987 in flood relief grants, including $250,000 to 202 family farms, $650,000 to 1,300 individuals, and $412,987 to 104 businesses.
