The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
We initially moved into a new office on March 7th, 2020, but when the county shutdown took place five days after, we immediately shifted to a work from home rotating schedule. Miracles for Kids remained open and deployed a bi-monthly emergency fund delivery to families to secure stability and prevent homelessness/hunger. We increased our monthly funding for families by 25% to make a more significant impact on patient families struggling to make ends meet.
Operations shifted to begin an aggressive phone banking system to maintain contact with families and patients. We pivoted our biggest program to focus on providing essentials like PPE, cleaning supplies, and gift cards to our families who were hit hard by COVID-19. Our Basic Needs program now focused on delivering PPE, gift cards, and any needs from families. We continued to make changes to ensure our families’ needs were met by launching a new monthly program to send boxes of additional basic needs and uplifting items for the children. In June, we teamed up with local community partners to execute a COVID-19 Response Meal Distribution Project to make sure our families in OC, LA, and Inland empire areas were fed. We also moved to direct appeal structure to secure funding, gifts, grants, PPE and resource lines.
In regards to donations, we invested in digital fundraising platforms and offered new remote volunteer opportunities to maintain a strong communication with donors, supporters, and individuals in the community. Even launching a monthly giving circle!
We were able to pivot our annual fundraiser and bring together eight intimate, privately hosted outdoor dining experiences across city, county, and country borders to connect via live stream. The innovative hybrid format helped us raise a record breaking amount to meet the historic level of need in the face of the pandemic. As a result, our 2020 Night of Miracles Gala ranked #4 in the Orange County Business Journal’s “Top 5 Galas.”
