The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
EngenderHealth teams around the world have sustained steady focus on advancing gender equality in and through sexual and reproductive health and rights programs, making important progress toward our global strategic objectives. EngenderHealth’s ability to pivot quickly and effectively to support communities, civil society partners, and governments in preventing and managing COVID, without losing momentum toward our broader goals, attests to our staff’s dedication and adaptive creativity. It also underscores the strength of our longstanding partnerships and the validity of our strategy, which addresses the needs of individuals, communities, and healthcare systems, and promotes supportive policies and laws, and of our focus on ensuring a gender, youth and socially inclusive approach.
COVID-19 has continued to shape many aspects of EngenderHealth’s work, affecting what we do and how we do it. In consultation with donors, partners, and the communities we serve, we have made adjustments across our portfolio to address needs created by the pandemic and to ensure continued progress toward our program objectives. As just one example, USAID recently awarded EngenderHealth $4 million to build individual, community, and health-system capacity and resilience in vulnerable communities in India that have seen surges in gender-based violence (GBV). In at least six states, we will address GBV prevention and response in communities, offer digital mental-health support for healthcare providers, and build primary healthcare providers’ ability to identify and manage COVID-related emergencies.
