Covid-19 demanded that we focus even more sharply on understanding and responding to the needs of our community. Our network of corporate partners, agencies, foundations, donors, and volunteers were challenged like never before. Together, we listened, learned, and utilized our ongoing access to a wealth of data to provide new insights that have shaped a more refined strategic approach to meeting basic needs and forging innovative solutions to age-old problems. We united critical community partners and created innovative solutions to deliver immediate relief to our most vulnerable neighbors.
Between March 15, 2020, and June 30, 2021, UWSWPA:
Launched the Students and Families Food Relief Fund in partnership with key business partners to provide more than 1,351,000 meals to children and families in our region. We worked with small, non-profit, minority and women-owned food prep partners to support meal preparation and distribution, which helped them stay in business throughout the pandemic.
Created a 10-county transportation network to deliver 867,521 meals, 14,265 non-perishable food boxes (356,625 lbs.), 30,247 diapers, 16,877 boxes of personal protective equipment (PPE), and more.
Responded to 260,726 requests for critical needs through 2-1-1 (including food, COVID-19 information, housing, and utility assistance) - a 78% increase over the previous year.
Expanded our Emergency Basic Needs Network to a total of 21 regional agencies to help those most affected by the challenges of COVID-19 meet their basic needs, distributing 2,115 grants, totaling $1,312,809, to help families stay in their homes and keep the lights on.
Provided financial and technical support to over 50 community agencies in our regional footprint supporting efforts to ensure equitable vaccine access and to promote community education/outreach, including support for over 30 clinics that have administered over 25,000 vaccine doses.
