The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
On March 17, 2020, just 3 days after Governor Cooper closed the schools, NourishNC opened a second location to host a no contact food drive-thru for the 1,200 children that were on that Backpack Program at that time. At the peak, we had 1,600 children enrolled on the program. By mid-December 2020 we have distributed over ½ million real meals to kids in NHC.
NourishNC has never closed our doors and the drive-thru itself opens twice per month. Each time, every child receives approximately 2 weeks of food including meat/eggs, fresh produce, bread, milk, and non-perishables (soups, cereal, mac n cheese, pasta, ravioli, chicken, PB & J, tuna, etc). In partnership with dozens of other agencies we have also distributed books, board games, COVID safety kits, census information, STEM kits, mental health resources, stockings and more.
We have also been taking food right out into the communities hardest hit by the pandemic. We have had boots on the ground feeding kids at churches, community centers, and other nonprofits since March.
