The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
To operate and perform safely, we consulted with city and state health departments and the department of infectious disease at OhioHealth to review protocols for orchestra members and audience, and negotiated with the Local AFM on protocols that included weekly COVID-19 tests for performing musicians. We also altered our season repertoire in order to maintain social distancing on the stage of the Ohio Theatre, limiting orchestra capacity, and we expanded our outreach program to connect with underserved populations through digital connections with musicians and live, outdoor concerts for retirement centers, food banks, and more.
Through virtual and in-person programming, we are proud that the CSO has continued to fill central Ohio with music over the past year, nimbly adapting our programming to maintain the safety of our musicians, staff, and audiences, and to expand our service to the community.
Newly created or adapted channels of accessibility and programming included:
Virtual concerts, Holiday Spectacular concert broadcast on two local networks and free streaming for hospitals, senior nursing homes, and State of Ohio correctional facilities; the return of our outdoor summer series Picnic with the Pops, holiday food drive, youth orchestras hybrid season, free digital curriculum for the largest school district in the State of Ohio, two interactive music education websites for kids and teens, virtual fundraising events, free outdoor community concerts, and so much more.
