Veterans were significantly impacted by the challenges of the last year especially as it related to social isolation and the inability to access necessary services. In keeping with our mission and vision Shamrock Reins responded by initiating routine telephone contacts and subsequent virtual reality video equine therapy sessions. Our team rallied together and quickly developed protocols and procedures to remain compliant with various mandates while continuing to provide our services. New equipment to execute procedures was purchased. Staff and Volunteers rotated schedules for time onsite to conduct our virtual reality video sessions. Additional program activities were developed. We kept the community informed of our activities through social media and email communication. We held virtual meetings with Participants to review new policies and procedures. Through our telephone communication we requested wellness checks for Participants/Veterans we identified were in critical need due to increased isolation. Our team communicated regularly supporting each other and identifying need. Through our efforts in 2020 we completed 1,678 Equine Therapy Sessions for a total of 2,748.75 Program Session Hours, in 2021 we completed 1,411 Equine Therapy Sessions for a total of 2,402.25 Program Session Hours.
