The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Throughout the course of the COVID pandemic, the Light Foundation has had to overcome many hurdles – cancelling, rescheduling or reshaping our major events was no easy task. We had to cancel several of our fundraising events. However, given our flagship fundraising event takes place outdoors, we were able to readjust and continue with the Matt Light Celebrity Shootout.
While there were challenges, there were also many silver linings in what was, by all accounts, a difficult year. We were able to maintain operations and preserve staff, thanks to our generous donors, run our flagship Vohokase program, providing campers key services at a critical time, pull off the greatest Shoot-Out in history, and execute the build-out of an epic treehouse – via our Timber Frame Leadership Camp!
Along the way, we were able to cut expenses, learn new ways of doing things, and take the time to work on some major initiatives, including a complete messaging overhaul, the collection of programming analytics, a strategic 3-5 year plan, a website update, the creation of an employee handbook, a Camp Vohokase playbook, and the launch of a partnership with Lowe’s that will enable us to execute our first-ever Winter Wonderland at Chenoweth Trails and a distribution of hundreds of Christmas trees to communities in need this holiday season.
We survived this year better than most because of our incredible staff, generous donors, like-minded partners, inspirational leaders, and good old-fashioned hard work! We’re now better positioned than ever to take on whatever comes our way in 2021 and beyond.
